My Spiritual Writing Process

Updated: Apr 13, 2021

I am often asked how I write my books. Getting in tune with my spirit was an integral part of becoming a greater writer. It took me a while to get my routine just the way I needed it to be. The main thing I had to accept was my intuitive direction. At times, we tend to doubt our greatest inner guidance. Many times I have gotten sparks of inspiration, and my gut told me to write these ideas down. Often I ignored those cues and let opportunities pass. But once I began to accept that I had been blessed with a strong inner guidance that I could trust, my life and my writing changed for the better. Now I am fortunate to be able to write stories for children that will hopefully help them grow up to be the best versions of themselves.

I always have an idea of what main message I want to portray in a story. I leave the rest up to my intuition. My writing process is really very simple. Here are the steps:

1. Pray and ask God how to help myself & others.

Over the years, I have learned how important it is to pray. God has truly guided me on my journey to becoming a successful author. This guidance has made clear to me who to write for and how. The books that I write are not only for the children. They nurture my inner child, as well. As an introvert, I internalized a lot in the past. Writing has been one therapeutic way to get those feelings out. I express the love, joy, anger, gratitude, pain and the injustice that I've experienced in my books, in a way that children can relate to and understand. Through writing these stories, I'm healing a part of me that was never quite healed as a child. So, my books not only help heal others, they help heal me to! When I pray first, I get the best guidance.

2. Meditate to see what guidance I get.

This is something that I cannot explain. It just has to be uniquely experienced. I know that this experience is different for everyone, and even a little private in my opinion. The more you practice meditation, the more you will understand. It is the most beautiful thing. When I get the right guidance in meditation, I just know what to do & go with it! I'll take this guidance and use it later on in the writing process.

3. Write and don't stop until my gut tells me to, even if it doesn't make sense.

I relax my mind and start writing down whatever words and ideas that come to me. A lot of the time these words don't make much sense. They can be incomplete sentences, just vague ideas, or a bunch of random thoughts. But, I write them down anyway, no matter how outlandish they may seem. Somehow these words always form a story later. My intuition lets me know when to stop writing and start editing.

4. Edit and make it make sense.

This is the fun part for me. Putting it all together. I rearrange the words I have written, and form a story around it. I take the guidance from the meditation and use it here too, adding pockets of wisdom here and there in the story. My stories are a combination of what is going on inside of me and what is going on around me. Therefore, I write mainly about feelings and societal issues.

5. Read what I've written and ask myself, "Did I really just write that?" :)

I'm always amazed that these stories come from my heart & mind!

6. Pray again and thank God for blessing me with such a great gift!

Gratitude is truly the key to success! The more I practice gratitude, the more my life seems to change for the better.
